Why You Should Attend An Army Training School

Why You Should Attend An Army Training SchoolArmy training schools are an essential part of the army training process. Since so many of them operate around the clock and in locations across the country, this is a school that should not be missed out on. However, there are so many different schools that offer these types of courses and it can be overwhelming to make your selection. This article will explain some of the reasons why Army training schools are made up of some of the most intelligent tutoring systems.Smart Tutoring Systems - To begin with, these schools are not at all dumbed down or compressed versions of what you would find at other schools. The people who teach here have extensive knowledge about the military and have spent many years studying tactics and approaches in an effort to improve the efficiency of their students. Some of the smartest military personnel have gone through the training program. They are highly trained in various theories and understand how to appl y these theories to the different students who attend their school.Excellent Learners - As mentioned, these schools are not short on students to trainees. This means that students have to go through all the necessary phases of their military training before they are allowed to come to the school. A number of individuals are passed up for training simply because they did not learn all that was required in their course of study.More Than a Program - These schools are not just a program. They are a personal development program where you will have teachers and tutors who are there to help you grow as a person and more importantly as a soldier.Interaction - In addition to the program in which you are enrolled in, you will be involved in activities and events throughout the day. You will meet other students who have similar interests, and you will be able to spend time building relationships with them.Intelligence - All of the tutoring programs at these schools are designed to help the st udents acquire the best information possible in their training. It's important that you see the results of your efforts on the military end of things, and this is the reason that the schools have the best tutors on the job.Convenience - These schools are not just for the military. There are a variety of different instruction styles and resources that are available so that you can learn about the nation's history and culture, without ever having to set foot on an actual military base.Armed Forces Inner Circle - In addition to the intelligence and convenient nature of the schools, these tutoring systems provide top-of-the-line standards that the army sets for their trainees. This means that you are going to get high-quality training and excellent assessment results.

Finding Your Musical Passion

Finding Your Musical Passion Suzy S. Music has a way of impacting us to our very core no matter if youre listening to it, playing an instrument or singing. Cultivating that passion will help you go far in your music lessons. Read on as Mesa, AZ teacher Karen R. explains My musical passion was ignited as a little child because I was raised in a musical family where I was surrounded by music. My parents, sisters, and I were singers and instrumentalists. Through private music lessons, musical ensemble, and group experiences, I learned to sing and play instruments well. I latched on to music as a child because it gave me joy, hope, inspiration, self-esteem, delight, and enjoyment, especially during difficult circumstances. It became my flotation device in hard times. Through music, I could escape into a world of beauty and joy.   I have seen “The Sound of Music” innumerable times, because it captures the truth of how music powerfully transforms lives by creating joy, encouragement, and healing. Therefore, it is important that we, as musicians and music teachers, not only find our passion for music, but develop and sustain it. The first step for musicians is finding their musical passion. For beginning music students, they can start by researching different instruments and talking with music teachers to find out what instrument/instruments would suit them. They can reflect on what instrument they feel passionate or excited about. Budding musicians can also discover their musical passion by journaling about how listening to and playing music makes them feel. This will get them in touch with the powerful, healing and inspirational impact of music on their souls. Second, we need to envision and reflect on how we want to develop as musicians and what and who we want to become. All musicians including beginning, intermediate, and advanced, and even music teachers need to set short and long term goals and assess daily, weekly and monthly if they are where we want to be as musicians. Also, imagining and seeing ourselves as that musician is powerful. My short-term goals was to get back into musical theater and recently I landed the role of Mrs. Paroo in “Music Man!” My long-term goal is that I want to get a doctorate and do my thesis on the powerful impact of music on people. I envision myself as a musical theater actress and having a doctorate in music! Furthermore, all levels of musicians who want to grow and develop should practice with their instruments regularly, take private lessons, read musical literature, go to concerts and musical theater so they can listen to and observe other musicians and artists. Finally, we need to work on sustaining our musical passions on a daily and ongoing basis so we won’t become bored, disheartened, and discouraged. When I was a music major, there was a time that I felt discouraged and defeated because I felt so criticized. I then wrote self-affirmations on notecards about who I am as a musician, my strengths, and that this is God’s gift to me. I carried these notecards with me and looked at them frequently. Also, what is equally helpful is to write a mission statement about why we are musicians and music teachers. What is our purpose? My purpose is to perform music to lift, encourage, and give joy to people. My purpose as a teacher is to help maximize my students’ musical potentiality so they can create joy. Like this post? Geography Courses

Geography Courses An Overview of Geography Courses ChaptersWhat Reasons Are There to Study GCSE Geography?Study Geography with a TutorGeography Courses OnlineWhat Can a Degree in Geography Do for You?Pop quiz: can anyone name three explorers living today?Explorers of times gone by come easily to mind: Captain Cook and Sir Walter Raleigh, Amerigo Vespucci and Hernan Cortez...Many people believe that, with the world’s every crevice already mapped and indeed the very topography of our earth available through satellite imagery for anyone to call up, what is the point of learning geography these days?It must be a dead science, they say; one that only musty academics care about! Why train as a cartographer when GPS navigation systems negate the need for any maps and Google can tell us any country’s capital? Those naysayers have it all wrong: studies in geography are more vital today than ever!Sure, we know about continents, countries and their capital cities but how can we assess our earth’s changes over time if nobody keeps them under observation? What? Continents change?Such incredulity is startlingly frequent and profoundly dismaying. That is why your Superprof sets out to dispel outdated thinking about the far-reaching discipline we call geography.Today, we put you on the path to discovery: of our world and social systems, of future careers you may embrace and of how best to slake the thirst for geographical knowledge you didn’t know you had.for other countries. As expansive as our teachings are in geography during our early years in school, it is dismaying that such learning does not continue through our last years in secondary. Our last Key Stage is our jumping point into our GCSEs and, by extension, post-secondary learning and our future careers. It is not atypical for a young scholar to change their mind â€" seemingly as the wind blows. So, while pre-teens may show enthusiasm for pursuing studies in geography, that passion could fade with exposure to new areas of study, especially if their desire to know more about human geography and physical geography is not fed.It is also at that age that students come to realise, perhaps through a combination of social programs and independent dawning awareness, of their role and responsibilities in conservation. And then, just as they develop the intellectual capacity to embrace and explore their physical environment and its environmental problems, their formal education in the subject stops!Indeed this is a grim scenario; now we take it one step further.Picture the wealth of jobs currently filled by people with a geography degree: climatologists and oceanographers, geographic information systems specialists and those trained in urban geography. With fewer students making geography their vocation, who will fill those positions in the future?Another reason to extend world regional geography education throughout secondary school is to understand how random events impact different areas of the world.Fortunately, we are not forced to endure cataclysmic w eather or dramatic natural disasters such as the recent Mount Etna eruption, but such phenomena affect us and the rest of the world in many ways, not the least being the global economy. This is not a plea to revamp public schools’ teaching agenda but a discourse on why our secondary school students should endeavour to continue their geographic and environmental studies, ultimately selecting geography as one of their GCSE subjects.Perhaps they could keep their interest in geography alive with a tutor...Studying and cataloguing our urban landscape is a program of study for future geographers Source: Pixabay Credit: Free-PhotosStudy Geography with a TutorLess than a century ago, a typical geography course consisted of learning continents, countries and capitals; major mountain ranges and bodies of water. Students were tested on that knowledge by locating them on a map and... not much else.Of course, back then, rote memorisation was the preferred teaching methodology; little opportunit y was given in the classroom for students to explore concepts that fascinated them. That is why their parents hired tutors!Geography is the mother of all sciences, comprised of such diverse branches as:environmental geography: studies the relationship between people and their environmentseconomic geography: the distribution and spatial organisation of economic activity around the worldclimatology: the study of climate and its effect on the worldcultural geography: the study of cultural standards and artefacts in relation to the spaces those cultures occupysocial geography: the relationship between social phenomena and the environment in which they occururban studies: the study of life in an urban environmentbiogeography is the study of biological communities within their ecosystemsapplied geography: the relationship between humans and the natural environmentIt is clear to see from this abbreviated list of sub-specialities that a geography tutor is not a one size fits all proposition! So, as you shop about for a tutor, you should take several key points into consideration.1. Is your prospective tutor familiar with the geography portion of your upcoming GCSE exam?As you well know, these exams often change their content so it would be best to assure yourself that any tutor you might work with will know everything about the most current edition of your exam.Of course, the same holds true if you are preparing for your A-Levels in Geography or even if you are an undergraduate cramming for semester exams!2. Is this tutor you’re interviewing prepared to meet with you only once a week or maybe several times per week as your test date draws nearer? It would do you no good to have a geography tutor who is not available when you need him, no matter how knowledgeable s/he is!3. How and where will your tutor give lessons? Are you comfortable with online tutoring? These days, it is quite common for tutors to give lessons via webcam and you may even get away with paying a lower price for quality tutelage!Conversely, if you opt for an in-home tutor, your rates may be a bit higher to account for the tutor’s travelling expenses and time spent on the road.4. Would you work with someone from a tutoring agency? In this case, your rates might be slightly higher because the company has to use a portion of the fees you pay them to cover their office’s overhead. However, the upside to engaging such a tutor is that you know they are fully qualified to teach and most likely have plenty of experience. The takeaway here is that even though geography is not taught in the last two years of your secondary education and what is taught in schools is the run-up to your school leaving examination, it is still possible to acquire knowledge about earth systems and principles of sustainability during that time.A geography tutor may serve up nuggets of knowledge every geography major needs! Source: Pixabay Credit: GeraltGeography Courses OnlineAs you kick around solutions to yo ur ongoing geography learning dilemma, you might be relieved to know that there are online resources to help you keep the knowledge you’ve already gained fresh. There are outlets to help you build on it, too!Consider MOOCs: massive online open courses. They generally comprise of about six weeks of learning; however, you may go through each class as quickly as you’d like.In signing up for any MOOC, you would be expected to devote about three hours per week to those studies â€" an exceedingly reasonable guideline! Of course, you may spend as much time as you’d like reviewing this material that so fascinates you.MOOCs generally have no prerequisites, meaning you don’t have to have already taken other courses in preparation for these. And, even though they are mostly sponsored by universities and research institutes, you do not have to be an undergraduate to participate. There are several open online courses that pertain to geography. Some deal with the physical features of lands and oceans while others delve into urban development and still others discuss climate change. If you are looking for review materials, you may find Quizlet geography helpful.Quizlet is a learning utility that incorporates flashcards, quizzes and games to give a rounded review experience. You should be aware that Quizlet is mostly tailored to American AP human geography (AP stands for advanced placement; approximately equal to our A-Levels study guidelines).Still, there is some use to be had for us; we can always test ourselves on geography terms and play games! The basic use of Quizlet is free; however, some learning sets offer materials for sale. One of the greatest advantages to learning geography is improved spatial analysis: where you are in relation to your environment.Essentially, what that means is that inside your head is a 3D map where you visualise your movements, much as a GPS would display them, albeit two-dimensionally.As you move about your urban landscape (or, if you are in the countryside, roam the hills), perhaps you wouldn’t mind listening to a few geography podcasts? All of these resources are free and their usefulness is contingent on your diligence in studying independently. If you (figuratively) need someone to hold your feet to the fire to advance in your studies, you may resort to an online tutor, as mentioned above. However, to the best of our knowledge, very few tutors work for free... except for Superprof tutors â€" at least, for their first hour of working with you.Indeed it is true that most Superprof tutors offer their first hour at no charge so that you two can get to know one another and find out if your learning goals are in line with his/her knowledge stores. To find out if this is the right solution for you, read more about the cost of in-home tutoring and online tutoring for geography.Believe it or not, a geography degree will put you on the path to discovering sunken treasure! Source: Pixabay Credit: ArhnueWhat Can a Degree in Ge ography Do for You?Before we start this segment, let us answer the question at the start of this article; the one about three explorers living today.Bear Grylls, adventurer and Scout leader who keeps pushing his boundaries, often for charityRanulph Fiennes is the Guinness Book of Records’ greatest living explorer (1984); he’s not done yet!Robert Ballard, the discoverer of the Titanic and other shipwrecks, is a leader in ocean exploration. Here are a few other amazing explorers you should know about! Now let’s see what type of exploration a geography degree can lead you to.If you are conscious of environmental change and are driven to find sustainable solutions to some of the most challenging issues facing humanity today, becoming a geographer is the best place to start. As an undergraduate student, your coursework would consist of introductory material in this humanities discipline: geospatial analysis, urban and cultural geography, the study of ecosystems and geopolitics. You may also work on a research project; doing fieldwork and analyzing your finds. From there, you could decide to specialise as a graduate student, focusing on either physical or human geography.Consider the adventure this education will provide! Even better: consider what this education will prepare you for...You will be qualified to place yourself at the forefront of every effort to preserve earth’s resources for generations to come. You will be the one to forge new ground in natural resource conservation and urbanization. Conversely, if oceanography is your passion, you might be one of the first explorers of the Mariana Trench!Provided there are submarines built to withstand extreme pressure by the time you graduate.Or perhaps you could help unlock the mystery of entire pods of whales beaching themselves in New Zealand...Many students wonder what they could do with a degree in geography, but that is only because of the common perception that there is nothing new to explore, discover or learn from our earth and its biodiversity, or from climatic phenomenon. How terribly jaded that makes us all sound!Go ahead: prove us all wrong. How to Prepare for College Fairs

How to Prepare for College Fairs The following piece was written by Rachel Korn. Rachel has been featured in ourAdmissions Expert seriesand is a former University of Pennsylvaniaadmissions officer, as well as the founder of her own admissions consulting firm. Throughout the year, in locations ranging from high school gymnasiums to large city conference centers, colleges and universities gather together to put on large-scale informational/recruiting events for high school students and parents. Schools bring informational brochures or presentations on computers and tablets to capture your interest and capture your contact information for their mailing lists. The tables or booths at the event are staffed by admissions officers or by alumni who have been asked to represent their schools for the fair. Admissions officers intimately know their campuses and programs and can talk about the admissions process. Alumni, while provided key updated information about the schools to share, can also especially discuss their personal stories of their student experiences. In both cases, you can learn where an education at a particular school can take you. How should you prepare for a fair? 1.Do your research and plan ahead. Read through the list of attending schools before the event so you can identify the schools that you definitely want to approach. This will allow you to proceed efficiently through the fair and guarantee that you talk to every school that you think important.2.That said, keep an open mind. College fairs provide exposure and access to schools you might not know about yet you have the chance to hear about unfamiliar places that might actually be good matches for your interests. Thus, it is wise before the fair to also check out the websites of the schools that you do not recognize. You may find that a school surprisingly corresponds with what you seek and can then investigate it further with the representative.3.Formulate specific questions. Rather than asking representatives something broad and vague, such as, So, tell me about your school, it is wise to ask targeted questions to help the representatives address your needs efficiently and appropriat ely and frankly, it will save you all time. Examples of such questions to develop are, Do you offer a major in Business? (if you are a prospective Business major); What division is your athletic league? (if you are a swimmer who wants to play on the Varsity team); Do your students live on campus? (if you are an especially social person seeking an active campus on weekends).4.Think about how to maximize your interactions with the representatives. Speaking with admissions officers, you may be able to ask deeper questions about the admissions process. Speaking with alumni, potentially your future interviewers, you may be able to learn a bit about them personally then at interview time, you may feel more comfortable.5.Prepare to talk about yourself. If you talk about your interests, you will guide the representatives through the information that is most relevant to share with you; moreover, they will get a sense of who you are. Think of the fair as more than just an occasion for you t o learn about schools this is a chance for the school representatives to learn about you.6.Dress and prepare to impress. You never know who will be representing the schools and who may actually remember you. These are casual events, but you could be talking to the admissions officers who will be reading your applications. Dont give anyone a chance to think poorly of you. In fact, if you end up making a particularly good impression (just by being yourself dont force anything), you could potentially even help your admissions case. Admissions officers truly note and remember the interesting students they meet and excitedly await their applications, rooting for the students and hoping the applications will be strong. Your positive meeting could help in this competitive process. Bonus tip: Senior admissions officers or experienced alumni who have staffed many fairs can be exceptionally helpful resources. They are not as anxious about performing or selling their schools. They love engaging in conversations with you more than just sharing information and they prefer making meaningful connections they do not want to just collect your contact details. They may even be happy to counsel you about other schools at the event that you would want to investigate, too. Keep an eye out for these representatives. Enjoy the college fairs bring an open mind, share, and learn! Visit RachelsAdmissions Consultingsite. The views expressed in this article do not necessarily represent the views of Varsity Tutors.

Since you're the only student, the tutorials will be planned around you, what you want to learn, and how you like to learn. Of course, this bespoke service comes at a price and face-to-face tutorials tend to be the most costly per hour of tuition. That said, they're also the most cost-effective since every minute in a tutorial is spent teaching you how to sing.Online tutorials are similar to face-to-face tutorials in that they're between a single tutor and a single student. However, thanks to the marvels of modern technology, you can be taught over the internet thanks to video conferencing software. However, since your tutor won't have to travel to you and can schedule more lessons each week, they can also charge more competitive rates.Group tutorials tend to be the cheapest per hour because the tutor's time is being paid for by everyone in the class. Unlike the other two types of tutorials, the tutor won't be able to offer bespoke tuition as they have several students to keep happy. However, if you and a few friends all want to learn how to sing, you can share the cost of private tutorials between yourselves in group tutorials.

Stanford Offers Free Artificial Intelligence Class Online

Stanford Offers Free Artificial Intelligence Class Online Two Stanford professors have announced that they will offer a free online class on artificial intelligence, according to an article in theNew York Times. Stanford professors, Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig two of the worlds best-known artificial intelligence experts will teach the course. Over 112,000and counting people have already enrolled in the class, which is nearly six times the entire Stanford student body. Students range from high school to retirees, and the course will represent students from 175 countries. Thrun and Norvig said that they will teach this course as part of an education experiment. They are trying to use technology to extend knowledge beyond Stanfords elite student body. The vision is: change the world by bringing education to places that cant be reached today, said Thrun. Stanford will offer two additional free courses. The first will be an introductory course on database software, taught by Jennifer Widom, chairwoman of the computer science department, and the second will be an introduction to machine learning, taught by Andrew Ng. Students will not get grades or credit for the course, but they will be ranked in comparison to other students in the class, and they will receive a statement of accomplishment. Students do not need to pass a test to get into the class. But to keep up, they may need some higher math classes like linear algebra and probability theory. This class is great for any high school student interested in going to Stanford. It probably wont significantly affect your chances of being accepted, but its a perfect opportunity to get on Stanford'sradar and show them youre interested. Even if youre not interested in Stanford, participating in this class can only help your college application. Not many other students will be able to say that they took a class at Stanford. The rapid commercialization of high-speed Internet access has created a new wave of education experiments. Many other professors have recorded their class lectures and uploaded them to YouTube for free. The Stanford courses will be taught in a similar way. The three classes will use streaming Internet video for lectures and interactive technologies for quizzes and grading. Stanford has used this structure to teach smaller groups of students in the past. The professors will use a Google moderator service that will allow students to vote on the best questions for professors to respond to in an online chat or streaming video. They are exploring possibilities to personalize exams to help eliminate cheating. The Stanford professors are hoping to use the Internet and other technological advances to extend education. Ng said that he hopes to see the equivalent of a Stanford computer science degree on the Web someday.

It is, in fact, the acronym for Massive Open Online Course, which has now completely become part of the language of everyday life in the UK, since th is name is now an integral part of our dictionaries. There are also sometimes other names to describe this way of learning a new language, such as Italian. Indeed, you will most likely encounter names such as Open Online Training for All (FLOT), but also Open and Massive Online Courses (CLOM). In any case, the fact remains that any student, any learner, wishing to become bilingual in the Italian language, will find his happiness with the MOOCs.In a more concrete way, MOOCs are divided into two types of courses: xMOOCs and cMOOCs. The first aims to validate skills through an Italian certificate of success, while the second opens up the field of possibilities more broadly, through freer learning and broader content.CMOOCs base their learning of Italian on the link, but also on an open pedagogy, which will be achieved through networks, connectivity, but also through an exchange. The idea here is to have a kind of collaborative community, via a forum, via social networks, so that learnin g Italian will become a real pleasure.Get started and learn all the Italian phrases, Italian words and Italian verbs you can.Dante is credited with linguistically unifying Italy. Source: Wikimedia Commons)A MOOC is, therefore, a type of online course, limited in time, free of charge, whose training objectives and themes are defined by teachers, but also by participants. This is the fertile ground for this type of course, which will make the educational journey a true path of knowledge. From a practical point of view, there are also videos and online content, for which a quiz will validate the progress every week.Check out how to improve your Italian accent. Why Learn Italian?Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced level, the Italian courses taken online are the guarantee of adopting an open and progressive attitude towards language learning. Indeed, MOOCs offer many advantages when it comes to becoming bilingual in Italian. Some of the benefits of this type of course incl ude:Save time with online courses,An exchange between the different learners,A real progress every week, validated by a quiz,Exclusive content, that we control as we see fit,A schedule that can be adapted according to our desires, our activities, our needs,A certificate issued at the end of the training if necessary,And many more!Among the most important objectives and interests represented by the Italian language learned online is the promotion of work. Yes, MOOCs are often highly appreciated, as they provide a solid linguistic basis, which can also be combined with a job. It should be noted that 28% of learners consider that the certificate is valued by employers, which is a significant basis, we all agree! What could be better than to feel supported and helped by Italian language skills? On the agenda: increased self-confidence, hard work and motivation, and significant efficiency. Being multilingual is always a good idea!Learning a new language, its vocabulary, its grammar,  phra ses, verbs and pronunciation is often easier when you experience a complete immersion through language and culture, conversation and listening so why not go on a trip to Italy. In addition, Italian courses London taught in MOOC, such as those at the University of Siena, are based on the principle that sound and image are the basic tools for effective progress. The interest will consequently be to feel supported in the most beautiful way imaginable when learning the language of love! What Should An Italian Teacher Do?Your Italian teacher is, at the beginning, a figure of support, a guide, who will project us upwards, make us progress in a significant way, thanks to his help and his listening. You should be able to rely on them when it comes to mastering the grammatical basis in Italian, for example. But when you take Italian courses thanks to MOOC, it turns out to be a little more vague, less palpable, for the simple reason that these are online courses. And online  courses mean differe nt support, which does not necessarily replace the basics of an Italian course in person. Yes, here, the courses are given in a freer, more autonomous way, and the teacher rather acts as an adviser.A counsellor who, although doesn't seem to be present, is there when you need him, and perhaps even more so than in private lessons. This is the advantage of an online course: more freedom, but also availability, whether it is the Italian language learner or the Italian teacher. What could be more satisfying than to progress without feeling oppressed?Even beginners can make great progress and learn to speak Italian quickly with language lessons. Everyone can study Italian and learn some conversational basic Italian words and phrases. It is important not to neglect the role of the student who, if he/she shows open behaviour, eager to discover a thousand and one facets of Italian, and ready to be corrected regularly (especially during the weekly quiz), will be able to establish a healthy and effective relationship with his/her teacher. This relationship will then allow him to progress simply, in full confidence and in full possession of his faculties! So it's not that complicated, Italian!Even modern Italian is home to many different dialects. Source: Wikimedia Commons)What Do To Do After Taking Italian MOOC?Let us face it, after a MOOC in Italian, the main idea is, as stated previously, to be bilingual. So yes, it would be a dream to be fluent in Italian, to be able to converse naturally with locals, to take a one-way ticket to Rome and watch series in the original language, but that's not the only advantage of MOOCs, and many positive points will come out of these courses.Learning Italian at a MOOC also means having the confidence to stand out from the crowd during a job interview. Because certainly, Italian is a language that we all know, since it is a European country, not too far from the UK, but few are those in the UK capable to speak it, and even less are those who are completely fluent! In this way, the MOOCs could guarantee you to add a string to our bow, at least to your professional profile! To prepare for the entrance exam to a major school, what could be better than to have an additional linguistic knowledge, which you would have learned in parallel. This is the advantage of online courses: being able to have a normal life while learning a foreign language. Mother at home, manager, civil servant, student, anyone can learn Italian with MOOC!Enjoy Italian culture by speaking Italian.Learn it, but use it too! Indeed, after the MOOC courses in Italian, it may also be a radical change of life, which would then be possible. Yes, as more and more British people decide to move abroad, all this would then be possible in Bologna, Palermo or Venice. These cases are obviously rarer, but let us also think of travel, which will then be considerably simplified. As you will have understood, MOOC courses in Italian are this type of course that allows you to benefit from a rich, varied and free teaching environment while making significant progress. Nothing and no one prevents you from enrolling in this type of course, and it gives you an open, accessible and resolutely modern image of foreign languages! Come on, let's have the Milanese cutlets and lasagna! Ciao!

Grammar Exercise Mixed Conditionals

Grammar Exercise Mixed Conditionals I had a Spanish class this morning and my teacher worked with me on the subjunctive tense. Soas payback Ive created a lesson on mixed conditionals.Just kidding, about the payback part. Although I did realize how confusing it gets when you are trying to speak in a mixture of times, which is what we do during normal conversations. Unfortunately or fortunately we dont usually speak in a formulaic manner, so during conversation we talk about the future and the past and the present all at the same time. Here is a somewhat formulaic look at mixing our times in conditionals:Watch the video and try the exercise below: 1. If you __________ (insulted) him yesterday, he _______ __ ____ to the wedding tomorrow. 2. If she __________ (accepts) the promotion, she ____ __ ____ to Brazil in 2015. (future using will) 3. I ________ ______ (speak) fluent Spanish, if I ____ lived in Spain for 10 years. 4. He _____ _____ ____ (left), if he ____ _____ (known) you were coming. Joan Oh, man now that I got the I, II and III conditionals, the mixed conditionals appear so those conditionals have nothing to do with the other ones?Lets see 1. If you hadnt insulted him yesterday, he would go to the wedding tomorrow. 2. If she had accepted the promotion, she will go to Brazil in 2015. (future using will) 3. I would speak fluent Spanish, if I had lived in Spain for 10 years. 4. He wouldnt have left, if he had known you were coming. But the 4th one is not the III type conditional? Now Im lost. Jesús Castañé Hi. I disagree with Joan in the first and second. Here my try.1.- If you hadn`t insulted him yesterday, he would be going to the wedding tomorrow. 2.- She accepted the promotion, she will go to Brazil in 2015 3.- I would speak fluent Spanish, if I had lived in Spain for 10 years. 4.- He wouldnt have left if he had known you were coming. Thanks in advance. Joan I really have problems with mixed conditionals. I thought there were only 3 types, and now I discover there are more of them. Why dont they teach them as type iV, V VI and so on? I dont get it. MarvinOB 1. If you hadn ´t insulted him yesterday, he would be going to the wedding tomorrow. 2. If she had accepted the promotion, she would be going to Brazil in 2015. (future using will) 3. I would speak fluent Spanish, if I had lived in Spain for 10 years. 4. He wouldn ´t have left, if he had known you were coming. LOIEnglish Perfect!

Teaching Compassion to Students and Why Its Important

Teaching Compassion to Students and Why It's Important Improving Academic Performance When it comes to education, reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic, used to take center stage and were the standard menu of what was taught to students starting in elementary school. Over time subjects like social studies and history, the applied sciences, and arts and culture were added to the list. In today’s world of education, where students are exposed to seemingly endless cascades of information and are coming to terms with growing up in a world highly affected by globalization, such subjects as community outreach, service learning, and multicultural units are sought after, even in the lower grades. Bottom line? Students are learning a lot. All subject areas have their place and offer significant development and exploration for students of all ages; as education continues to develop and change and schools attempt to foster more community-focused and united environments, subjects like mindfulness and compassion have gained popularity. So what happens when we explore teaching students concepts like kindness, mindfulness, and compassion, as courses themselves? Let’s dive in. According to an article on mindful.org, which explores the benefits of creating a “kindness curriculum,” the school environment is often highly stressful, over-stimulating, and a feeding ground for both minor and major bullying. While such realities cannot be entirely eradicated, (nor should they be if one is to develop character and resilience in a sufficient way) “caring practices” such as well-wishing circles and allowing quiet time for students to self-regulate, calm the nervous system, improve focus, and cultivate compassion, all of which help foster an overall better learning environment. Compassion is a strong buzzword in today’s world, both within education and beyond, and it remains a powerful practice that helps encourage empathy and brings connection to those who otherwise might not connect. Education World explores how “active compassion” on the part of teachers can help direct students from floundering to flourishing; sometimes it is as simple as a student having that special teacher or advisor to talk to about her problems that makes her capable of overcoming and succeeding in school. Why not carry those qualities into the classroom as part of learned curriculum? Teachers can promote active compassion by maintaining positive expectations, exuding warmth (while remaining firm), courteousness to all students and faculty, allowing students to take ownership of their learning, and to avoid at all cost the temptation to make sarcastic and cutting remarks. Compassion takes practice, but much like any habit, it builds upon itself; the more practice of active compassion, the more it builds up overall. Teachers are humans, too (despite their sometimes superhuman accomplishments) and have to practice cultivating empathy and compassion as much as the next guy; everyone has bad days and is prone to mistakes, but the more teachers (and parents) can practice empathy with their students, while still maintaining standards of learning and discipline, the more equanimity will result in the classroom. Simply modeling exercises like taking deep breaths before reacting to an uncomfortable situation can allow a teacher to keep her cool while also instilling some valuable tools in her students, rather than losing her temper and reprimanding, which can create a tense and even hostile environment, depending on the school setting. Even writing these rules out as something both teacher and student can strive for and placing them visibly in the classroom can be a great motivator for a school year. Just how does one go about allowing concepts like compassion and empathy to truly sink in? Much like developing a growth mindset, having an open mind is key. In truth, compassion cannot necessarily be taught the way that solving an equation can, but it can certainly be modeled and thus a part of classroom or school community expectations. Mindsets go far. An article on Mind/Shift explores how quickly setting the tone in the classroom is perhaps the most important factor in creating a healthy educational environment. In an interview with Dr. Robert Brooks, who once taught at a school within a lockdown psychiatric unit, he keenly observed that teachers “have to start with the assumption that everything you do in the classroom can have a major impact on a child’s life, not only in the classroom but later, too.” He noticed that certain behaviors like micro-managing and overly-controlling students in an attempt to instill order actually created more chaos and disease. Instead, he proposes a mindset shift across faculty that encourages maintaining big picture “why are we here and working in this profession” awareness, not taking student behavior personally, and allowance when applicable instead of force and rigidity. He emphasizes not blaming students for struggling in certain areas, but instead modeling how they might take steps to improve and reach the consistently high expectations that should be set in both individual classrooms and school communities as a whole. This would not only help teachers ward off burnout but encourage students to develop traits like resilience, self-awareness, and both self and other-oriented compassion. The world of education is complex and intricate, and while we cannot make it perfect or perfect for all teachers and students all the time, we can certainly take steps to help improve the mindsets and dispositions of teachers and learners. Learning compassion and kindness may not fix or prevent every problem, but they certainly cannot hurt. Try implementing a bit more of this in your classroom, with your children, or as a student or child yourself, and notice how things may shift for the better.
